Tomatoes for the Broken-Hearted

How to heal after a break up

Tomatoes for the Broken-Hearted is a beautifully authentic and touching picture story written by a dear friend of ours Tallulah. We love Tallulah’s creative and sensitive nature and, of course, we love her art. If you would like to see more of her creations follow her on Instagram.

“When we fell out of love I planted tomatoes. I wanted them to by symbolic. But they weren’t, really. It was more that I needed a distraction.

As the last few years feel down around me, I needed to watch something grow.  I needed something to depend on my time and my care.

My greenhouse isn’t much use – it sits under an Eucalyptus tree which shades it from most of the sunlight. So there weren’t many tomatoes and they were very small. But they were the sweetest I’ve ever tasted.

Anywhere else the though of you hung over me like a curse, but here the towering leaves formed a shelter where I could forget.

The leafy smell was grounding, it reminded me that I was alive. In that space my isolation became a choice. It was mine to own and cherish.

Armed with the tiniest tomatoes, I could finally let you go.”
